The ASHTON model - Derby men's shoes - is certainly one of the most versatile. Unlike Richelieus shoes, the Derby features inner and outer quarters that meet at the tongue and vamp. This open lacing system is particularly suited to users with a strong kick. The Derby takes its name from Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the 19th century, who found the lacing of the Richelieu (or rather Oxford) uncomfortable. His bootmaker made him a pair of shoes with open laces, and thus the Derby was created!
