Alan Men's Shoes (Derby) Pull-up Black

The Alan model is certainly one of the most versatile. Unlike Richelieu shoes, Derby shoes are made up of inner and outer quarters that meet at the tongue and vamp. This is an open lacing system that is particularly suitable for users with a high instep. The Derby takes its name from Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the 19th century, who found the lacing of the Richelieu (or rather the Oxford) uncomfortable. His bootmaker made him a pair of shoes with open laces, and thus the Derby was created!
